2nd birthday

Turning two years old comes with much wonder and amazement at the world around the youngster.  There is awe and excitement at the discoveries that occur almost daily.  Growth and development are easily measured as tasks and activities are mastered.

The two year old has a jaunty, almost sassy, air in their approach to the world.  Almost as if to say, “Here I am, and I’m here to stay….what’re you gonna do about it?”

Two year olds tend to be cheeky and bold, obliviously unaware of the pitfalls that lie ahead ready to trip them up.  And when they stumble, they’re quick to bounce right back and forge ahead.

Statistics say that the second and third years are the most developmentally active.  More information and knowledge are absorbed in those two years than in any others.

Well, Chattanooga Property Management has turned two!  And we’re here to tell you that the fun has only just begun.

We have great plans in store for the coming year, and those beyond, too.  We have set the bar high, and intend to reach our goals, and then some!

As we continue to provide unparalleled property management service to our area, we intend to open our wings and find untapped market venues and niches that we have not yet explored.

So, come along for the wondrous journey – watch a two-year-old explore and conquer their world.

Until next week……..continue to “Experience the Difference!”

Labor Day

I just wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a happy Labor Day.

Yes, I know it’s over already.  I realize that my well-wishes are now too late to be considered helpful.

But, don’t let it be said that I didn’t offer the sentiment.

And what is the deal with “Labor Day” anyway????  This is a national holiday, in which many Americans take the day (or weekend) off from their jobs…..so essentially, for many (possibly even “most”) people, this is actually a NON-Labor Day, right?

So, we grill hot dogs & hamburgers, hang out at the lake, camp out with friends, travel or observe whatever tradition that has been passed on to us from generations past.

Well, this year, I decided to toss all of that tradition into the proverbial waste heap, and I left behind hot dogs, camping, boating, friends and family, and I went to the beach!  Yes, I know that this is a very popular Labor Day destination, and that many folks already do this every year.  But not me.  That’s what makes it different and noteworthy.

So, Myrtle Beach, SC, having been a recent near-miss from a serious hurricane, on Labor Day.  Can we say “crowded”?!  Hot, too.  Our hotel room was definitely  not worth the inflated “holiday” price we paid for it.  Traffic was brutal, parking was a far-fetched idea (but NOT a reality), people were rude, prices were ridiculous.  What more can I say?

The moral to the story is that there is clearly a reason for those long-entrenched traditions that we all adhere to.  It isn’t because “that’s the way Grandma did it”, and it isn’t because “it’s a great place to be this time of year”……it’s because it’s so darn hard to make NEW traditions!  It’s a lot of work to go on “vacation” for a weekend to a new spot…….AHA – now I know why they call it LABOR Day!

It suddenly all makes sense……I think I’ll be able to sleep tonight, now!

I hope your Labor Day tradition is firmly seated and wholly satisfying!  If not, try something new…..you’ll have a new appreciation for hot dogs and frisbee!

Unbelievable….or is it?

Let me start by saying that the following tirade is in response to a relatively rare occurrence.  Most tenants are responsible, considerate, hard-working people, with a healthy respect for other people’s homes.

At Chattanooga Property Management, we are very fortunate in that we have a majority of this type of tenant in our properties.  We work hard to provide quality housing, at a fair price, and keep it well-maintained, so we can be proud of the homes we offer to the public.

That’s why it’s so hard to comprehend and discouraging when we encounter things like you’re about to read about.

You know, as property managers, we see some really interesting things.  We see all kinds of homes, some grand, some not-so-much.  We see tenants of all types; again, some grand, and some…..well, anyway.

The most interesting thing I think I’ve seen lately, though, is just how terrible a tenant can leave a house, and still think that everything is OK.

I have a hard time figuring out what makes people think they can just destroy others’ property without any repercussions.  How do you justify completely and entirely soiling every available surface – carpet, walls, siding, even the deck!!!! – and then waltz out without looking back?  Leaving trash, appliances, even old food behind!  Allowing children to write on the walls, and who knows what is on the carpet?!  So, what are those children learning?  How to be destructive or just how to live like complete slobs?  Either way, it’s not a positive lesson.

Do they not comprehend that this house actually BELONGS to someone?  There is someone out there, paying a mortgage on it, who purchased it in order to make rental housing available for people who could not purchase.  And this is the thanks they get!

But, it will work out.  There is justice for these deliberate acts of destruction.  There are remedies under the law that we will pursue; and then there is a more powerful kind of justice that they’ll have to answer to.  Call it what you will, just know that it’s there.

OK – I’ll get down off my soapbox for now.  It just makes me so very angry to see such disrespect for even the most simple pleasantries in life!
